Physical Disability

This category of DARE is reserved for those with significant mobility difficulties. For example applications for those with Hypermobility or Costochondritis may be considered for DARE under Significant Ongoing Illness provided that all other application guidelines have been followed. This category includes (but not exclusively) Cerebral Palsy, Brittle Bone Disease, Spina Bifida, Rheumatoid/Osteoarthritis, Spinal Cord Injuries, Muscular Dystrophy, Hydrocephalus).
Appropriate ProfessionalOrthopaedic Consultant OR Other relevant Consultant appropriate to the disability/ condition.
Type of Documentation RequiredComplete the Evidence of Disability Form 2022 OR Submit an existing report completed by the appropriate professional that contains the same detail as the Evidence of Disability Form. The report must be signed and submitted on the headed paper.
Required Age of ReportWhile there is no age limit on diagnostic evidence submitted, it is advisable to submit a recent report.
Other DisabilitiesSubmit an Evidence of Disability Form for each disability/ condition to be considered.
Educational Impact Statement (EIS)The Educational Impact Statement allows you and your school to provide detail of how your disability has impacted on your second level experience. The EIS is a requirement for all applicants.
DARE EligibilityThe applicant is eligible once an appropriate professional has provided a diagnosis of a significant physical or mobility difficulty AND the applicant meets any combination of two educational impact indicators from Indicators 1 to 5 on the EIS.
